Damaged catalytic converter
The catalytic converter is a significant component of the vehicle’s exhaust system, which can contribute to a sulfurous or rotten egg smell. The catalytic converter converts trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide in the fuel in your car’s engine into sulfur dioxide, a colorless, odorless gas. Specifically, it is designed to reduce harmful emissions by transforming toxic gases into harmless ones, such as hydrogen sulfide.
In the case of a malfunctioning catalytic converter or a blocked catalytic converter, the sulfur gases cannot be processed appropriately, resulting in the rotten egg smell. If you notice such a foul smell in your car, it might be due to a damaged catalytic converter. If this is the case, you must replace the catalytic converter. Upon inspection, if your converter appears to have no visible signs of physical damage, another component in your vehicle may have caused it to malfunction.
Transmission Fluid Leakage
If you have missed too many transmission flushes, the fluid in your transmission may leak into other systems and cause an unpleasant odor. However, this problem is most often associated with manual transmissions, but by changing the transmission fluid according to the car’s manufacturer, you may be able to solve it. A faulty fuel pressure sensor or damaged fuel filter
The catalytic converter’s performance is affected by the condition of the fuel-pressure sensor in your car. The sensor is responsible for regulating the fuel flow and controlling the direction of travel. When a sensor fails, too much oil inside the catalytic converter places significant pressure on the exhaust system. Whenever the quantity of oil is high, the catalytic converter cannot convert excess gases, causing unpleasant odors.
